At Wishaw and District Small Arms Club AGM in June, Donald Baxter stepped down as Club Secretary after 30 years. During those three decades of distinguished service, Donald has led the charge, growing Club membership, liaising with various associations and even being Club Champion for a number of years. For his dedicated and unselfish service to Wishaw and District Small Arms Club, Donald was presented with numerous gifts on the night including a letter of thanks from NSRA CEO Iain Root.
“It almost feels like a lifetime ago when I took over as Club Secretary. Our previous Club Secretary, Bill Graham, set a real precedent for Wishaw and District Small Arms Club. He improved the Club in so many different ways, finding us new premises and even kept us going when we faced difficult times. So to say I had some big shoes to fill would be an understatement!” Donald recalls.
“Although it sounds daft, my main aim over the past 30 years was to keep the Club going. We’re a small Club hidden away in North Lanarkshire and I’ve always said, if it was down to me our members would shoot for free. I wanted to create an atmosphere where our members could come to the Club, enjoy the sport, shoot some cards and win competitions in the meantime. I feel like this is the right time to pass on the reigns and have great faith that our new Club Secretary will drive the Club forward.”
Club Chairman, William Ferguson also commented saying, “To thank Donald adequately would be impossible. Over the years, he has sacrificed his own personal time for the greater good of the Club, all while raising a family and running a business. His efforts have been overwhelmingly appreciated by Club Members past and present.”
