“It is great news that Birmingham has been selected to host the 2023 IBSA World Games and the fact shooting is included excites me at multiple levels. This is the first time that shooting has been included in the programme and is a significant step in the development of the sport as it becomes the highest level competition open to VI shooters to date. Also with the IBSA World Games being a multi-sport event, this is a great opportunity to showcase the sport to a wider audience.

"On a personal level this has given me a new competitive goal. As well as raising the level of my competition, it does feel special to be able to do it in my home country. So my focus now will be on training to win medals at the Games.

"In mentioning training, we do find ourselves in unusual times. Towards the end of last year I was getting the feeling I needed to take a temporary break from the standing discipline, so the last couple of months has presented a good opportunity to take that break with minimal impact upon competitions. With some careful planning I have been able to get a set up at home which has enabled me to continue with dry-fire training for the prone position throughout the lockdown period."
